If you did mean Udon, I'd say August and September on average, although there isn't an enormous difference.

Rain, where art thou?

Post by rjj04 » September 16, 2012, 10:35 am

Update: At the end of July Udon precip was the 5th worst (of 102 yrs of data)
By the end of August it was down to the 3rd worst

Although this month has certainly had some rain, my guess is that it hasn't been nearly enough to
get the numbers off the bottom.

Rain, where art thou?

Post by rjj04 » June 15, 2015, 7:48 am

This time last year, the ground around my area was already saturated by the rains. This year it is dry, still awaiting the monsoon. For the last three months the village has been shutting the water supply off on weekends from 9-5 to ration the water supply, last year there was no problem. It would seem that the 2015 El Nino is already bringing back drought conditions....

http://www.ibtimes.com/el-nino-2015-be- ... ia-1918989

I guess I will have to push harder to get a well installed. If they are rationing water now, at the start of the El Nino event, next year this time they may not have any water to ration out.

Yes, OT has been woken up before by the ruddy street dogs. Next place I buy in Udon is going to be in the countryside.
OT finds the rain therapeutic during the night in Udon, listening far away thunder turning into the pitter patter of rain drops falling and then turning into rain and torrential rain, heavy thunder, bright flashes of lightening and gale force winds tends to make me drop off quite easily.

Hmmm, the last couple of weeks over here in Sakon Nakhon province have been pretty dry. With only a month or so of the rainy season left there are some serious problems ahead for folks in the north and north-east of Thailand. Looking at the water level in the resevoirs in Chiang Mai area, they are averaging around 15% of capacity. At this point in time they ought to be around 80% at least. Even the dam in Udon (forgot the name) is only at 19%. It seems this Super El Nino is playing havoc with the weather pattern here. Great for my solar panels though.

Will we see very high vegetable pricess next year as water is rationed? I sure hope I am jumping the gun and the heavens start to pour down soon.

Idea... anybody who happens to have some land with a well might want to start vegetable gardening as a hobby :)

Check out the resevoir levels yourselves...

Yes, good link. Only one major dam full and 4 more than half full in all of Thailand...... Our ponds are nearly a metre down on this time last year. We do have some wells, but only go into surface water table, usually dry up around May any way. Normally veg garden is waterlogged until end of September, we are growing some stuff already as still dry .... I expect we will have to give up the veg growing by March next year.

I think it is quite probable that Udon will be on water rationing by March as well, with only 19% in the main reservoir.

There's an article in the BP about low water levels in dams around Ayyuthaya affecting rice farmers......so I checked to see how Udon's main source of water is doing.
Judging by the stats/graph in http://www.thaiwater.net/DATA/REPORT/ph ... ?dam_id=13
not good:
Last year on 8 Sept, 67%, a bit less on the same day in 2013. But on Sept 8, 2015, the water level was 24%.

You can see the water levels for all the big dams around the country at http://www.thaiwater.net/DATA/REPORT/php/rid_bigcm.html

Thai news channel 3 showing a flooded Pattaya and their sukhumvit rd the worst, not remembering hearing ever before about Pattaya.
Probably like anywhere though with their blocked drainage systems like Bangkok,a bit of planning goes alongway 8)
