With regards to EMS offices,I always use the Srisuk office as much less queues than the Central one, some parking problems understandable but overall quicker. The airport counter,as far as I am aware, opens late morning and of course is a small office.
All about timing for some, any plus/minuses for the Phosi road?

I always use the one in the complex (Central Udon). Mostly it is just birthday cards and small packets. Walked in last week to post a birthday card for my niece, no queue, in and out in 60 seconds.

Phosi road has better parking than srisuk, though the Central Plaza is more convenient if you happen to be shopping there.

Where in Complex Lee. my eyes tend to wander slighty, and must have missed it.

Must see my local Opthermologist about this local issue.

3rd floor Wazza between Easi-Buy and the hairdressers. The actual place is called "Government counter services of Udon Thani Province" or something like that. You will see a height chart and Thai people getting their ID card, walk past them and there is usually just one guy sitting at a desk at the back beside a small office.

Yesterday I sent off some documentation to the UK via UPS. The service they provided was incedibly good and efficient. I initially telephoned them and they were round at the house within 15 minutes, I asked them to bring some "Scotch Tape" I didn't like to ask the young lady to bring around some "Durex" f.y.i. thats Australian for scotch tape! They arrived c/w said tape parcelled it up in a UpS envelope, we paid up (no, it's not cheap) but for peace of mind, what the heck. I tracked it this morning & it has left Bangkok and winging its way to its destination. Nothing but praise for UPS Udon Thani, thanks a bunch.

as an update on my earlier post praising UPS Courier Service, the envelope was collected from my home in Udon on the morning of 10/01/11. It arrived on my Brother's desk on the Wirral U.K on the afternoon of 12/01/11, nuff said.

do not use DHL from UK to Thailand. Have just been mightily shafted using their Express service with an additional 15K baht to pay before they will deliver, only 15% of which is duty. Having paid for door to door I am being charged a second time for the service. The 15K (approx 340GBP) is more than I paid to freight from the UK to Bangkok

would have been cheaper to send partner to Bangkok, pay for a Visa, pay for a return ticket to UK, and then pay business class from BKK to Udon to avoid excess baggage. not joking. am I angry. course not. :^o

Harry insist on official invoices & receipts for everything.
Then copy everything & send to DHL head office in the UK, with a note explaining that if they do not quickly reimburse you will get trading standards in the UK involved.

Hi Bob. Thanks for the help. I spoke with DHL UK and as far as I can see the problem lies with them. Because I used an agent in the UK my contract is not with DHL so I can only take up the complaint with a small guy who I believe acted honestly. The DHL website is totally misleading and inaccurate and I am complaining to the advertising standards and trading standards about the hidden costs involved. However, new laws about UK web site accuracy do not come into force until, I think, March 1st (may be March 31st). I have to say I can never complain about Thailands "rip-off" culture again having just returned from the UK. Cannot believe how bad it is over there at the moment and if people haven't been back for a while they will be in for one hell of a shock. Diesal is now 1.35GBP a litre (at the local Tescos) and is going up to 1.40GBP by April 1. That affects everything. Almost cheaper to buy Marmite over here now!!!!

I want to send my mates some motorbike parts, plastics etc about 2kg to Cambodia, they have a guesthouse for delivery address. What is the best and most likely to not go missing route to take with this? Obviously once in Cambo not as safe as this side of border for things to go missing.

Make a visa run to Cambodia and hand carry them and make a holiday out of it.

With respect I do not want to go back
to Cambodia until Oct, need to send stuff there now from LOS, is the post office (EMS) still the one to use for this or a courier more likely to get the parcel delivered with no problems/missing stuff? Anyone sent stuff to Cambodia?

Given a choice of sending some documents to the American Embassy in Manila for about 1300 baht via UPS, and probably less than 500 via EMS, my cheapness tells me to go with EMS. Would anyone care to comment on EMS pitfalls?

I have never had a problem with EMS within Thailand - sending my passport to & from embassy for example.
I believe that British passports now have to be sent to Hong Kong to be renewed - the suggested method to citizens from the embassy is EMS.

Don't know if that is much of a recommendation though as many UK Citizens are not as enthusiastic about our embasssy as Americans are about theirs...(with good reason) :D

I've never had any problems sending via EMS in the past. The tracking is not as detailed as UPS and it's not as fast IMO, however all items I've sent in the past have arrived safely.

Parrot

We also sent our documents to the USEMB Manila by EMS without any problem at all.
