Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

My wife wanted to have a roofed place to park the tractor. I agreed. I was at my condo in Jomtien. When I got back home, I found that I now have 100 square meters under roof. I told her that I wan't going to pay for that huge project. I paid 9,000 baht and she paid the rest. shed_102655.jpg Looks l...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

Okay, I hope I can pick up the chronological events of the build w/o being too confusing. So In November 2018, I've funded the wife to move forward while I'm out of the country. The slab for my containers gets poured and my storage containers delivered. The wife can't wait for her uncles to become a...

Re: Need plywood cut

I have several of them. I like to think of them as museum pieces which should never be touched. Besides, even with something like a Sawzall, if I attempted a 240 cm straight cut through 15 mm plywood, it would look more like a section of U.S. Highway 1 on the California coast, than it would a straig...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

Allow me to make a date correction and backtrack just a bit. We had the TW's land cleared in October. I left for a long trip to China and then the United States. Then, on Nov. 2nd 2018, the concrete slab pour for my two storage containers took place. 1549538448660.jpg 1549538444821.jpg 1549538441431...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

It's a nightmare, I had to make sure I was on site every day while building the apartments, but even then I'd come back from lunch and I'd find them preparing beams the wrong size and I'd have to get them to unwire the frames and redo them, the minute your back is turned they'll try to cut corners....

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

A few years ago I had a small overnight house built next to a farm pond. I hesitate to call t a house, it is more of just a bedroom with an under roof front porch and cooking area on the end. There is an outhouse out back. The other small cement box in the back houses a 5,000 watt generator that ru...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

Looks like a pretty standard village build, it would probably be a bit cheaper if you bought all the materials yourself but then you have to factor in what your time is worth. Next they'll put in the beams that go from post to post, then the rebar goes down and the concrete floor will be poured. Al...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

So what happened last fall was that I was buying a couple of storage containers. I'd already decided to pour a slab on my wife's land. And then I just thought, WTF, if I can build that house for 230,000 or about $7000 US dollars, then why not do it as a ten-year anniversary gift to my wife? I never ...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

Lend them the money -- force them to have a skin in the game. Maybe they'll take care of it. Giggle, to he honest, these folks don't know how to take care of a house, they have no such experience. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. And one thing I've learned in life is that when someone clos...

Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

A couple of months back, I embarked on something I'd promised myself, and my wife, I'd never do---build a house for my wife's family. I'd made it clear to her from Day One--some ten years ago--that I was committing to her, and not her relatives. Of course, in Issan, the Conventional Wisdom is that's...

Re: Mattresses

Since it was the weekend, I stayed off the roads but did check out Thai Watsadu. The guy outside has the 6' for 7200 baht but there's some cheaper 6' on offer inside with 3800 baht being the cheapest. Best mattresses I have seen in town are at Robinson's, but you have to catch them on sale or they'...

Re: Need plywood cut

I had forgot about Meow's shop between Home Hub and Do Home, on the other side of the Nong Khai highway but closer to Do Home. I just bought 7 sheets of plywood and the total cost for all of the cuts was only 100 baht. Plus free delivery. Her shop isn't small--maybe medium sized--and has all of the ...

sure would like to see Big Joke get enough funding for immigration to build a new office for them in Udon... Hey, there are plenty of empty storefronts in the mall.. Maybe they could relocate there!!!
Now you're using common sense. Careful, not sure that's allowed over here. ;)

Need plywood cut

Home Hub, Big Lots, and Thai Watsadu sell the kind of 15mm thick plywood-type sheets I want to buy, but they don't do cuts. I don't think Do Home does either. I need some simple straight cuts made on about six sheets, but I don't want to spend 3500+ baht for a circular saw. Anyone know a shop or yar...

My wife and I also like St Mary's and we're very happy with our daughters progress but if I have to find any fault in the school it's their lack of communication to parents. With technology today it would be easy for the school to inform parents electronically, for instance, when they are to have a...

Your kindergarten cost also includes Summer School, the IEP program, daily meal, books etc. Our daughter is just finishing K3, P1 first term cost 16400 bht. Again including Sumner School, the IEP program et al. Chris, Yes, the summer school cost is automatically added into the lump sum bill, but I'...
