Re: Thai Etiquette

Not into the house, but not uncommon to see people in the garden collecting Starfruit, banana leaves and vegetables. Rarely happens now as 3 houses on the extended plot and gate kept closed. When i first came their was not even fences or walls.I think most were relatives/neighbours but still disconc...

Re: US Presidential election odds

An interesting take on how supply side economics have failed in the USA and how using 'migration' as a election issue is actually preventing any work being done on it (and depriving Ukraine of weapons and ammunition) https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/january-25-2024?utm_source=substack&utm...

UK expats can now vote in UK elections

The recent announcement that UK expats can now vote in UK elections for life did come as a bit of a surprise, (previously could only vote for 15 years) but why now? Well, you have to vote in the constituency you last voted in, and of course postal votes are pretty useless as the papers take too long...

Re: Russia

Putin is just waiting until Donald takes over and cuts off Ukraine's military aid. If that happens, Ukraine will have to ask for a ceasefire. Putin might agree, but only if Ukraine cedes him all the captured lands. Meanwhile, meat grinder for another 12-15 months. Russia has millions of conscription...

Re: Best burgers in Udon

My wife after years of badgering, started making burgers last year. Just basic chopped pork and onion. Cooks them and freezes them. Just take out and warm in Microwave for breakfast. Getting good buns is the issue, most sold in Thailand are loaded with sugar. Unfortunately, many buns are sold withou...

Re: The source of the coronvirus??

I first heard bits of this story as far back as January 2020. The way Chinese authorities initiated a massive quarantine and their reluctance to provide information to the WHO , makes you wonder. Time for a thorough spring clean at the Wuhan laboratory (including some of the staff). I wonder what wa...

Re: Future energy sources?

Thanks also Galt. I have just previously been running one small solar panel and a single small lead acid battery, in case of blackouts/occasional farm work, to run one fan and a couple of lights. Had 2 batteries, Globat crap from Amorn, neither lasted much more than a year. I will never buy Lead aci...

Re: Patch embroidery

BigC, Nong Bua? you mean Nittayo Road, next to the ring road junction?

Yes, it is on the ground floor, Front side, about half way between the escalators. it is pretty small! We use it to embroider daughters name on school clothes.

Re: Future energy sources?

I would like to instsll solar power, jist a grid tie system (no batteries) just to offset about 75% of the electric bill. Also preferably a system that is modular and can be installed in stages. One issue i think is lack of local installers, who van be trusted and not gouge the customer (last time i...

I went the first week. My experience more like whistlers. Didn't find anything special. More choice in town, unlikely to go to new Makro unless i had reason to be in that area anyway. In town closer for me.

Re: Israel under attack from hamas, war declared.

What would i do to combat inyernal terrorism? Well not use airstrikes for a start on every suspicious group of men. It.is not a case that hround forces couldn't get there, it is all under IDF control. Anyway, Netanyahu has now publicly stated that there will be no 2 state solution. All IDF and settl...

Re: Israel under attack from hamas, war declared.

Lets not forget the West Bank. Yet another botched IDF retaliation kills 7 civilians. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68006126 Of course, IDF says they were terrorists. Strange that some of them had permits to work in israel. No weapons found, just drinking a early morning coffee around a...

Re: Vote wisely.

Pretty useless here in Thailand. i did ask for a postal ballot once - it arrived 5 days after the election......
Only any good if you can use a proxy vote - but it has to be for the constituency you last voted in. Good luck with finding someone you trust.

Udon Gen. Hosp. IT Problem

Many of you may have heard that the hospital has a computer problem. It has. Seems to be a ransomware hack on the medical.records, possibly other sustems. I can confirm that the hospital.has no.access to your medical.history, this is having a knock on effect to consultations. Be prepared for longer ...

Re: Future energy sources?

Just a couple of bits of additional information. I worked at the Jabiluka Uranium mine reserve in the 1978-1980 for Pancontinental mining. At the time it was the largest known Uranium deposit in Australia. Hence why i questioned those top ten producers. Unfortunately many internet sources AND publis...

Re: Stroke -Doctor recommendations

As Semperfiguy said, no separation, and the international office gets you a queue number and you do seem to have priority (because you pay cash). But not expensive for routine tests and consultations, a typical bill for a couple of tests, consultation and maybe some meds is usually under 2,000 baht ...
