Re: Currency Crisis Happening Now

Most wealthy people are diversified, but not across currencies. Yeah in hindsight it would have been smart to move half while the exchange rate was 20% higher (not too long ago). Ahhh... at least I built the house with approx 34/usd instead of the current rate. On the bright side, USD net worth hig...

Re: Currency Crisis Happening Now

Wealthy people are usually smart enough to diversify their portfolio so that the decline of one asset is offset by the ascent of another. Most wealthy people are diversified, but not across currencies. Yeah in hindsight it would have been smart to move half while the exchange rate was 20% higher (n...

Re: Currency Crisis Happening Now

If you're living that close to the margins, maybe it's time to reconsider life abroad where work is not appreciated and you're really little more than a parasitic host. Your assumption doesn't consider folks who are wealthy and losing a lot (at least on paper) because their assets are in dollars, e...

Re: Currency Crisis Happening Now

And now we have Trump openly wanting to devalue the dollar. Doesn't look good.

Re: Currency Crisis Happening Now

How about the Australian dollar getting VERY close to, I think, 22 year lows against the baht.

Currency Crisis Happening Now

I am very surprised there isn't more talk of what is happening with exchange rates. I'm looking at all the major pairs (USD, AUD, GBP, EUR) against the Baht. It is a total disaster and it seems to be accelerating! Yet, folks are fairly quiet about this situation. I understand English teachers may no...

Re: Gone with the Wind, 6,000,000 Baht

My mother in law lost some money in this scam. It wasn't the first time. Happens ALL THE TIME. People will never learn. Sam Prao in particular is such a **** hole (yet the value of property here is totally insane).

Re: Survey: many Thais feel lonely

@ Saint: Totally agree. It's true from a social standpoint, but also an economic standpoint. Think of all the loss of productivity due to all the wasted hours on Facebook. The internet was supposed to be a tool, not a digital ghetto. Governments around the world should tax the hell out of social med...

Re: Why low foreign currency values

@Stantheman can you show us why you think that? Being a net exporter (and also reliant on tourism) it would be odd for the central bank to take that approach.

Re: American Stabbed to Death

@ Palmer1011 So sorry for your loss. This was a young man with most of this life ahead of him. Word around the village is: It was the girl's uncle who stabbed him. I know that conflicts with the article but Thais aren't known for their accuracy. Some say he was a glue sniffer or alcoholic or both. I...

Re: This, That and Another Thing

What I know is that most folks underestimate their monthly expenses. The reason? We all have bills that come due on a yearly or quarterly basis. Insurance is a good example of this. How often do you pay your car insurance? Most months you don't pay anything but for sure you are incurring that cost e...

Fuel, Internet, Electric, Food, Insurance, Clothing, a modest budget for leisure and dining out + daily 40-50 coffee / ice cream plus various other misc costs that people forget about... I've no idea how a Farang with a family can live on under $1,000 USD (considering current exchange rate) - At lea...

Re: Phoenix Bistro (Sponsor)

UPDATE: In my opinion, Udon still has a lack of decent places to eat quality western food. Phoenix Bistro has really improved the situation for westerners. It's a convenient and friendly place to satisfy the taste buds and, as a result, I've become a regular. The food is also healthier (fresher too)...

Re: Phoenix Bistro (Sponsor)

Just visited Phoenix Bistro for the first time. Great location, great food (coffee too) and friendly staff. The prices are also very reasonable. Good atmosphere and a big improvement to what was previously here. The place will do well. =D>
