Re: Now What? (American Politics)

When will America bring home its 100,000 troops from Europe? I can see some real savings there. Not to mention the GIs having to endure such hardship tours in such socially bereft locales. Imagine a red-blooded GI having to endure a year or more of his early years in... Portugal, Spain, United Kingd...

26 residences x 3,000 equals 78,000 monthly for security and maintenance of club and pool. Four guards one gardener and one maintenance tech ought to do it. Settled! What happens when a third of the units sit empty after two years because the concrete facades are cracking and the sidewalks are crate...

Interesting editorial in the LA Times today comparing Clinton working with a GOP majority in 1994 and today's similar scenario. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-mcmanus-column-election-20101104,0,3104350.column The crux of the article is here: When the Democrats lost in 1994, Cli...

A provision in the US Health Bill, signed into law this past Tuesday night, will mandate all chain restaurants with 20 or more locations to display visibly calorie counts for all items on menus , boards, drive-through displays, and vending machines. The law will apply to 200,000 restaurants nationw...

Re: Scooter driver mows down elderly couple, breaks no law

I think licensing and extensive training requirements are in order. We, as a civilized society, simply can't tolerate rouge elements cruising the streets with no regard for the safety and welfare of fellow citizens. Perhaps something along the lines of UK police bicycle riding manual. Practical, fri...

Texpat if you can't post anything sensible and serious on a news item about a serious situation, and are unable to avoid stirring up unnecessary Brit v American sniping, then may I suggest you post your provocative and churlish comments elsewhere. Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly take it under...

I'm guessing a Vigo or D-Max is what they're looking for.

Tell'em to get bent. She's an adult of 25 who can make her own decisions.

In all likelihood, it's they who are treating her like a commodity.

I'm not convinced you understand the difference between race and nationality, Bob. Proof please. Might I suggest you curb your personal insults. (personal -- aimed at an individual, not a group) It's quite unbecoming. So the A-380... That's a fairly nice looking school. Shame Qantas had to go and bo...

Re: San Francisco Bans Happy Meals

Calorie counts for each menu item are prominently posted near every fast food ordering counter by law. Perhaps they should have the cashier total up the calorie count and decide if the customer is too fat or not. What about take-out orders? Why ban a few hundred-calorie happy meal, but not a few tho...
