Re: Serious Traffic Hazard

Well done jimjay, well worth going up against a van while riding a motorbike just to show you have the bigger bollocks. I get the sarcasm. To each their own. With road hazards in play and not wanting to get caught up in possible chaos I did what I did to maintain my spot on the road and don't need ...

Re: Serious Traffic Hazard

They never learn. Even for regular grass or hedge cutting the workmen put out 1 or 2 cones. In the UK they do sometimes go overboard by closing entire lanes for the same work but if it saves lives, is it overboard?
Thailand has a lot to learn about road safety from top to bottom.

Re: What are your 5 favourite Thai dishes

In my early days visiting Thailand I once went on a mission to order krapow moo(pork) but by the time I reached the favourite little family restaurant moo had became maa. Needless to say I never got what I asked for and I never asked for it again once I returned with the krapow moo and the Mrs had e...

Re: What are your 5 favourite Thai dishes

1. I'd agree with the Pad Krapow but I generally have it with pork, while more fatty it has more flavour. 2. I'm a man of simple taste and my local noodle shop is hard to beat for simplicity. The fact it's remained open for years and outlived other attempts in the village says a lot. 3. I like BBQ'd...

Re: spending time with Thai family in Pattaya

I never paid a sinsot for my ball and chain as such but she had a daughter already and her families house has been renovated beyond recognition since I rocked up. The daughter never asks for a thing and appreciates anything given to her so I've been very lucky. One of the neices has tried endlessly ...

I've sampled some in Laos, probably the best I've had out of France. They even speak French to add to the feel.

Re: The absurdity of Thailand

It probably saves money since dead people don't need a whole lot of treatment. Those surviving through using a helmet could end up needing long term care or surgery. Not to detract from your point as I can't see one plus for not wearing a helmet. They're cheap enough to buy and become priceless once...

Managed to get a used Bosch planer for about 2000 Baht. Generally can't go wrong with German stuff.

Thank for the replies, still after a router though.

Re: Those annoying small coins.

Is there laws on how many satang can be used at once? In the Uk there are, only so many of each denomination is allowed. The self check outs don't know that though!

How long is conscription? I'd be happy for my son to do it but if it hindered his learning or career I'd certainly look at ways to avoid it. Having said that some of the treatment in the Thai army leaves a lot to be desired.

Will also help divert a fair bit of traffic from the ring road. Good news since my house isn't too far from the Ngeesoon store.

Re: How do you spend your time in Udon day to day

I think Barney raised one key point. If you're stuck for something to do in a foreign country why not throw yourself into learning the language? It makes life so much easier being able to communicate more effectively with the wider community. If nowt else, Thai girls really appreciate the effort you...

How many people did they kill in a hit and run? Bit hard to compare a few nasty fouls with what he did. That said he's served his time and is, in the eyes of the law, rehabilitated. If he has a conscience he'll still be serving a life sentence having to live with his actions. I'm sure he realises ho...
