Shop Staff being over attentive

God knows there's enough trauma in the world without getting stressed over a sales assistant who wants to help you. Try taking some chill pills guys and stop moaning about nothing or get your significant other to shop for you, it may save you a heart attack!! Right on. For some reason it's seems re...

Shop Staff being over attentive

Spot on analysis of the problem, in my case I was just buying coffee, and all the pack are written in English, so no need help. I asked one question, do you have coffee ground especially for a cafetiere or french press, a look of shock horror, and she called over her boss, who had not even heard of s...

Shop Staff being over attentive

I took the opportunity yesterday to buy some coffee in Udon, I received the normal greeting from all 6 staff upon arrival, and then one of them followed me round the very small shop , as I picked up coffee beans etc. She spoke no English, I can speak no Thai, unfortunately. However,I found the close...

Nigerian Housing Scam in Udonthani

Quote squad smash him... Apologies, straight out of bed and on to the forum this morning, not fully awake. There is also a factual error in my post, I wrote that the scammer had written to the forum, when in fact it is simply the OP introducing the scammers text. The use of same font siz...

Overt Racism in Thailand?

ignorance = racism, discrimination. Education and open minds are the answer, not a lot of either in Thailand yet. The use of the "F" word in my area is almost unstoppable, depsite me living here for 3 years, they all know my name , but I am still addressed, though not to my face, as the "F". It is ...

Re: Thai Lottery - A Game of Chance?

My TGF bought a ticket a few weeks ago (probably the dubious one) and won a thousand baht. Unfortunately, the ticket seller was low on cash and said he would come back with the money..... she is still waiting.... My wife still insists in buying from a Local Operator , who is currently keeping a low...

Take away coffee rip off

For some reason, Thais cannot make coffee, well, they make it with little or no knowledge of how to make it. Even ' Bon cafe ' makes good coffee badly. Many years ago I was taught, by a Superior Coffee Roasting and grinding shop in Golders Green, London that good filtered coffee needed a pinch of s...

Take away coffee rip off

I was at the Wattana hospital after the coffee kiosk was closed and the nearest place to the hospital that might have sold coffee was the White House pizza restaurant. My girl asked if they did take away coffee and they said "yes". I ordered hot coffee. Here's what I got - see pic. 1 take away food...

In 2009 there were 17000 registered charities in the UK

It is estimated in 2012 £11billion was donated to these organisations. What is your attitude to charity? Do you believe in charity? If you do, how do you determine who should get your cash and how much? If you donate, do you prefer your donations be used worldwide or do you feel charity begins at h...

You might try Aroma coffee which is located right off the fountain circle next to the old Ford car dealer. They have a large selection of coffee, coffee machines etc. Thanks for this piece of information, apart from the new Boncafe outlet, which my wife will not let me visit, I was not aware of Aro...

You forgot the "I can't see the 4 ft of parking space available, I'm going to put my motorbike 2.5 ins from your bumper" disease  If I drove an older car, or a beat up truck, I would have to accidentally run over the motorbike, perhaps word would get out to the Thais that as the motorbike is t...

Thai Lottery - A Game of Chance?

In the villages nearby, it appears possible to buy a "lottery number" up to 6 times a day. Most of the folk I see buying these numbers are very much on the breadline, living a day to day existence, someone somewhere is getting very rich.

Villa Market

Dont know why our two farang stores, VM and Tops are so bad compared to other cities. Went to VM in BKK and the new Tops in Sakorn Nakhon both had more stock and choice than ours and more cheap offers in stock. Villa Market in Pattaya is also a poor operation with low stock levels and poor choice f...

Proper monk behavior? (Monks and BMW's)

I visited an Old Folks Homes outside Udon Thani, they appeared to be very surprised to receive visitors bearing gifts for the residents. I would prefer my family to spend time and money on this or on an Orphanage, rather than the Wat. Having spent over 17 hours at 4 separate Wats over the weekend I ...

Proper monk behavior? (Monks and BMW's)

It is the most amazing con-trick ever thought up by mortals, I thought the Catholic Church and all other Churches were bad, but I am afraid to say that Bhuddism in Thailand really takes the biscuit. It is sad to see the money going into wats from the pockets of those who cannot afford it, but who fee...

Thai teleportation

Do other members have relatives who seem to think that it is possible to teleport them from A to B in a matter of minutes, when it takes a good 1.5 hours by road to travel? When appointments have varying times, all for the same appointment, what time do we need to be there I ask, oh 9,10,11 comes th...

We visited Sisaket last year, and I was very impressed, it looks a nice area to settle down. Did not have the time to check out farang food outlets however. I agree that numbers of farang in Udon need to be kept down.

New Arrival

I am a new arrival to this forum, I have retired from the UK, ex military, and live about an hour and a half from Udon, with my Thai wife. Strangely enough I seem to be even busier here, looking after fields of various crops and the families 3 gardens, Mother in Law lives in the next house, and the ...
