Re: Availability of Western Food - It gets easier with time

Good news about the corn tortillas. I'll stock up on them. Flour tortillas are not that difficult to make at home; really just flour, salt, water, shortening, and a little baking powder if you like. Corn tortillas on the other hand require masa harina and regular corn meal or corn flour simply does ...

Re: Thought/s for the Day

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it - and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again - and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore." ~Mark Twain

It's about 11:30 AM here in Udon Thani on Monday, 25 August. The thirty minute time change (foreward or backward?) hasn't occured. Perhaps the national anthem is on a regular coordinated schedule while the rest of Thailand just keeps on using "Thai time". That can be described a dozen different ways...

I reckon we'll know this weekend.

I did hear/read the same thing that Alan noted. Synchronization for the morning and evening anthem times was a primary goal.

My wife is much the same as the others mentioned on this thread. Thankfully, the silent moods are rare. Sometimes they last only a few hours and are infrequent. When I think about it, I remember much the same situation with my first wife back in farangland. Not speaking to each other could go on mor...

I also printed one to keep in the car. Thanks for the information in an organized format. Even our housekeeper (who does not read englis...

The wife and I have been in Vientiane since Wednesday and although the riverfront looks like a battle zone with sandbags, military personnel and police, the water has not entered the streets and all utilities are still working. For the hotels, restaurants and bars in the main business district it is...

Here is a recipe for Branston pickle. If you can find the ingredients it should not be too hard to make. Looks like the big drawback it that you will have to wait 3 weeks to sample it. Branston Pickle Recipe #26952 Branston Pickle is a UK favourite that is served in pubs as part of a Ploughman's Lun...

The wife calls this place Kung Phao Kalasin. It may be the single best place in the area to eat shimp. They prepare shrimp using a variety of cooking methods and you really have large selection of dishes to choose from. The other items on the menu are equally tasty. I concur, it is a very good place...

Billy Graham has been sought out by every president since Harry Truman. I could be very wrong about this, but I cannot recall Graham publicly endorsing any presidential candidate during any election. I could be way off base here, but I just don't remember it ever happening.

A great line from Redd Foxx:

Doubtful that you will ever see any humour from a yank. Most of us are only capable of humor. Some have tried, we we just keep forgetting to stick in the 'u'.

I believe a little humour is just fine. Would it be okay for us yanks to inject a little humor as well? It's one of our favorite things as long as it is not off-colored.
