Obama: Dead in the Water...is it true?

@ GT93 "Next time put an accountant in charge of your wars". We did and his name was Robert S McNamara and it was Vietnam and you know how that turned out! X amount of enemy dead (body count) for X amount of expended ordnance.

Thai escalator phenomenon (culture shock)

I remember one morning I went to the Big C on Posri Rd just after they opened for the day. I got on the escalator at the end closest to the car park entrance driveway. I started going up on the right hand one and just about then a mid 40's aged Thai woman obviously in a hurry got on the 'down' side....

Re: Udon Thani Immigration Office

Mortiboy: "I do realise that the staff at Imm office are under rules they have to go by. If they miss something, they get a problem when the Docs sent to Bangkok"! I remember having to make the dreaded trip to Nong Khai for my 90 day report. As my retirement visa had been renewed in Pattaya (before ...

Re: Udon Thani Immigration Office

Trubrit, "old" was just a generalization. As far as I'm concerned it's only state of mind. A person can be 45, going on 95 if that's where their heads at! One foot in the grave and another on a banana peel.

Re: Udon Thani Immigration Office

Thank you gentlemen. My point was about the thread on immigration. Nowhere did I bash Thailand just their immigration/admin hoops that are all to common here. Where the money "ups and downs" and the "go homes" came from (I already left) I'm still wondering. Also, I didn't know there was restriction ...

Re: Udon Thani Immigration Office

I moved to the Philippines last Nov. after three years in Udon and nine in Thailand. I obtained a Special Resident Retirement Visa (SRRV). It cost me $1400 and I have to maintain $10,000 in the bank and have an income of at least $800 a month. With it, I have an ID card, get to use the diplomat/VIP/...

Re: 'Retirement Visa'

Renewed my type "O" retirement visa today for the 9th time (they were nice) and I am glad to see that the powers that be have put a test in place. I also had to draw a map from the Immigration orifice to where I live. Glad to see that map drawing skills are now required for retirees! But, I'm not su...

Here's an interesting article that was in the forum section of the BKK post last week on Thai's views of "farangs" and Thai culture with some interesting comments.
