Rats/Mice Exterminator
Rats/Mice Exterminator
I heard some scrabbling around above our kitchen ceiling, so I got the missus to put some poison down a few days ago. Heard the scrabbling again tonight. Anyone know of a 'rodent guy' / ratcatcher dude for hire?

It is only a temporary solution.mac123 wrote:I heard some scrabbling around above our kitchen ceiling, so I got the missus to put some poison down a few days ago. Heard the scrabbling again tonight. Anyone know of a 'rodent guy' / ratcatcher dude for hire?
We have had some big and small rats etc. above ceiling.
1st solution was to let nature to take care. It is really interesting noise, when a big rat snake (I hope only a rat snake) goes to catch a rat above ceiling.
2nd solution was to place rat glue traps. Got 3 one, but again temporary.
3rd solution was to close as many holes as possible. Not enough. They can use electric wires etc.
So, handle 1st rats and get other ones and again. Best is to find the way those rats use to go up. Then remove remaining rats.
I hope you got the idea. You would be a gold mine to a ratcatcher without doing some work to restricts rats to come in. You or someone else can only catch rats that are already in house, not those which are coming. We have same problem with snakes. One out and next day three more in.
Re: Rats/Mice Exterminator
rat snakes will get them or cats will. they're probably coming down at night for something in your kitchen.
is your place 2 stories or 1?

Take the advice from eagle and jimjay.
We had the same problem, the wife bought some things that look like big moth balls and threw them around the loft. There are also small bundles of wood which give a smell these rodents don't like, maybe someone out there will remember the name. They helped but we encouraged the cats from next door by leaving some food for them in the day time. Never had a problem for years now.

Cedar? In the U.S., closets are sometimes built from cedar. It has a strong (but not unpleasant, at least to me) scent which controls moths the same as moth balls.Wee Jimmy wrote:There are also small bundles of wood which give a smell these rodents don't like, maybe someone out there will remember the name.
Re: Rats/Mice Exterminator
I always found that the cheap mouse glue traps (available from 7/11) worked well & quickly..
Re: Rats/Mice Exterminator
Welcome the comments chaps, many thanks....but I am still looking for a 'ratcatcher'. In the UK I would simply call Rentokil - they would (a) kill the rodent/s and (b) identify how they are getting in. I would then employ a tradesman to block point of entry.
Is there no company/individual who specialises in dealing with rodents?
ps I have a 2 storey house, with a 1 storey kitchen extension.

The wood is Camphor. Mainly good against insects. I have a Camphor wood box i bought 35 years ago, still smells well when you open it, never had any bugs inside ....
