Udon Charity Golf Event 6th May 2015
A super effort by Trevor Edge and his lovely wife Tai in organizing once again a hugely successful Golf Day at Ubolrat Golf Course yesterday for our Udon Home for Children Charity.
More than 30 Golfers entered the Competition and some who were not able to attend still donated generously.
The course was not in great condition due to non activity over the 5 day holiday weekend and scores overall reflected this.
However this did not detract from the enjoyment of the day and the goal in contributing that all participants could towards a most worthwhile Charity.
With the temperature in the high 30's the beers made available by Trevor and Tai on the 4th Tee box were much appreciated. Some might have not passed a blood test after though as the intake of a few beers certainly lifted their game i.e. Chuck Mc Cormick.
Winners were;
1st Brian Proctor KK
2nd Marcel Joerg Udon
3rd Toppy Fahey KK
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes were;
Graham Burke 3rd and 12th
Marcel Joerg 5th
Trevor M 14th
Following the Round a Thai buffet was supplied for lunch, and with a few ales having been enjoyed by this stage the Auction commenced.
A huge thanks was afforded by Auctioneer Peter Hellery and Trevor for the generous donations to be auctioned off. Peter as with last year conducted the event with humour and encouragement to extract as many baht as possible from a good natured crowd.
Lots of good natured banter followed until everything was
gone, credit to the Auctioneer.
Presentations followed for the Days winners and the Raffle prizes.
Following Trevor's calculations it was discovered a new record had been set with 35,300 baht raised from the Auction and the Entrance fees.
Everyone on the day was Winner in contributing to a worthwhile Charity.
Congratulation and thanks to all especially Trevor and Tai Edge, Auctioneer Peter Hellery and Tai's family members who also assisted on the day.

8th May 2015 Udon Golf at Wing 23
As we had played Ubolrat Wednesday in the Charity Event we decided to forgo our regular Friday round there and instead play locally at Wing 23.
The course is in top condition for this time of the year and the general opinion is that it is a better option than Srithani Forest Golf Course.
Except of course that Wing does not have carts for those who struggle to walk 18 holes in the current heat.
At only 350baht for Green and caddy fees plus the Caddy tip it is an inexpensive round of golf.
Only 6 of us rolled up early to tee off at 7 30am and although it was in the high 30's commencing early made it bearable.
Scores- Terry Aston 37.Graham Firth 36,Tony Jones & Per Hansen 31,Peter Hellery 27,William Chang 24.
Closest to the pin on the 15th par 3 went to Tony Jones.
Udon Golf Society Round next Monday 11th at Srithani -be there at 7 15am please for a 7 30am tee off.

The price for 18 holes at Wing 23 goes up to 450 baht on holiday days as I discovered last Tuesday, along with the usual lack of etiquette by large groups of local's.
Here's tae us, wha's like us, damn few, and they're a' deid. Mair's the pity!

11th May 2015 Udon Golf Society Results
High temperature around 38 degrees and equally high humidity was experienced this morning at Srithani Forest Golf Course even though we teed off early at
7 30am.
Numbers were down no doubt due to the conditions as it really tested those playing. Srithani has a higher humidity level than most Udon courses and this is especially uncomfortable following rain or early morning watering.
Fairways are still sparse with grass but the Greens were almost back to their best condition for ages.
Rex individual and Graham Firth in spite of any difficulty with the conditions were very impressive with 39 point rounds. Rex just winning the day with 19 points on the back nine compared to Grahams 15 points.
Closest to the Pin on the 12th par 3 hole went to Terry Aston.
Overall Scores- Rex individual, Graham Firth 39,Tony Jones 33,Terry Aston 29, Rudolf Fischer 23,Peter Hellery 19.
For anyone interested a few of us will be playing Wednesday at Wing 23 with a 7 30am tee off.

May 2015 IFGG Round.
Numbers down due to members overseas or injured but we still had 8 to tee off yesterday morning at Dancoon Golf Course in Khon Kaen.
Very hot which is to be expected at this time of the year in the high 30's.
Course in relatively good condition with flag placement and speedy greens resulting in many 3 putts.
The windy conditions was difficult to handle with draws becoming hooks and fades into slices.
Rex individual won the day with 36 points followed by Terry Aston in second with 34 and Peter Hellery in third with 32 points.
Terry Aston won the only closest to the pin on the 17th par 3 hole.
Overall Scores.
Rex individual 36,Terry Aston 34,Peter Hellery 32,Tony Jones 31,Gordon Caygill 30,Per Hansen 29,Chuck Mc Cormick 26,Denni Price 20

Second day of May IFGG at Ubolrat this morning.Very hot conditions throughout the round.Fairways were ok but greens were extremely difficult to read the speed.A big difference after our round yesterday at Dancoon where the greens were much quicker.
Per Hansen had an excellent round with a net 72 to win the day.Chuck Mc Cormick on count back with a net 79 was second with Denni Price in 3rd spot.
Denni also won the Closest to the pin on the par 3 12th.
Peter Hellery won the Crazy hat with a round he best forget.
Rex individual with 68 points won the overall 2 day Comp narrowly from Terry Aston 66 and Per Hansen 65.
Denni Price took home the Wooden Spoon but I doubt that will be repeated this year.

Damn hot and humid this morning at Srithani Forest Golf for our Udon Golf Society weekly round.
The heat, humidity, earlier tee off time and many away overseas or injured seriously impacted on our numbers as only 5 teed off.
Course was in ok condition but will improve further once we get some serious rain.
Scores- William Chang 39,Terry Aston 37,Tony Jones 30,Rex individual 28,Peter Hellery 27.

29TH May 2015 UBOLRAT Dam Results
Another hot day for our regular Friday round at Ubolrat with 6 players at tee off.
Course needs a bit of work as fairways could do with a cut and the greens far too slow(at least that is my story).
Our overall scores were poor which might have reflected on the course conditions, or maybe the extent of the heat.
Tony Jones recovered from a poor start though to have 19 points on the back nine even after only scoring a point on the 17th and 18th holes. His 32 points overall however was enough to win the day from Chuck Mc Morris with 30 points.
Tony also won the Closest to the pin on the 12th par 3 hole narrowly from Peter Hellery.
Other scores were ,Peter Hellery 29,Terry Aston, Trevor Edge & Denni Price 28,

Udon Golf Society Medal Round this coming Monday 1st June at Srithani.
It is a Thai holiday so please be at the course by 7 15am for a 7 30am sharp tee off.

1st June 2015 Udon Golf Society Medal Round
Once again very hot conditions at Srithani Forest Golf Course this morning as 8 of us teed off for the June Medal Round.
The evidence of a huge tournament was everywhere on the course but no effect on our play. Fairways average and greens on the slow side but fair to all.
Scores were overall excellent considering it was a Medal Round with William Chang 70 Nett winning the day from Rex individual 71.
No one from the group managed to hit the greens on the 10th of the 17th par 3 holes.
Overall Scores-William Chang 70,Rex individual 71,Peter Hellery 74,
Terry Aston, Bent Knudsen75,Tony Jones 78,Graham Firth 79 and Chuck McCormick 81.
Wednesday for any members who are up for it we will be teeing off at
7 30am at Wing 23 and 8 30am Friday at Ubolrat.

5th June 2015 Ubolrat Dam Friday Competition Results.
Once again extremely hot conditions this morning when we teed off at Ubolrat Dam. The heat no doubt contributed to a few not turning up but regardless it was an ok round with the course in reasonable condition. Greens being worked on though which made it difficult to assess the speed on some of them but it was fair to all.
Results- Ari Jylha won the day on a count back from Terry Aston as both had 35 point rounds. Other scores; Tony Jones 30,Denni Price 29,Chuck Mc Cormick 28,Peter Hellery 26,Graham Firth 25.
Closest to the Pin on the Par 3, 5th hole went to Terry Aston.
Monday Udon Golf Society Round will tee off at 8 am, please be there by 7 45 am for the draw.

JUNE 2015 IFGG RESULTS.
Our June IFGG round concluded today at Ubolrat Dam following the first day at Singha Pk.
Graham Firth with a first round score of 38 points teed off as favorite but as has been the case in many IFGG rounds the leader has not always gone on to win the overall competition.
Peter Hellery with 34 points yesterday put in a consistent effort today, to score 38 Stable ford points with only Chuck Mc Cormick recording a plus 30 points score from the rest of the group with 34.
Conditions were not easy with high temperature plus high humidity taking its toll on most members.
Scores today were; Peter Hellery 36,Chuck Mc Cormick 34,Denni Price & Rex individual 29,
Terry Aston 28,Graham Firth 26,Gordon Caygill 24.
Closest to the Pin on 3 par 3 holes went to Rex individual, Chuck Mc Cormick & Denni Price.
Peter Hellery with a Total of 70 points won the June Competition narrowly from
Chuck Mc Cormick 69 in second with Graham Firth in third with 64 points.

Highlight of the 2 day Comp was Chuck Mc Cormicks first ever Hole in One on the Par 3 13th at Singha Pk.
Once again a successful 2 days of Golf and Social interaction for our IFGG Members was achieved.

Udon Golf Society Round this Monday at Srithani at 8am tee off.

22nd June 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.
Very warm conditions as usual greeted us as we teed off this morning at Srithani Forest Golf Course. A good roll up in spite of the heat and humid conditions which was pleasing.
With the USGA 4th day in progress from 2am it was certainly a toss up whether to play or watch the exciting conclusion with so many in contention.
In spite of the hot conditions the overall form with a couple of exceptions was excellent with Ari Jylha 41 points, Paul Samme 38 and Tony Jones 37 blitzing the field.
Ari who had 25 points at the half looked early to be heading for a record Stable ford score.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3, 8th hole also went to Ari who had a day to remember on the course.

Wednesday at Victory Pk for any interested a few of us will be teeing off at 8 30am. Feel free to join us if you are up for it as according to those who have played there lately the course is in excellent condition.

Friday our regular Ubolrat Round with an 8 30am tee off.

24th June 2015 Udon Golf, Victory Pk Round Results.
Fabulous weather today on an equally fabulous Victory Pk Golf Course in Nong Kai as 6 of us teed off early this morning.
Some of us had not played the course for months and were pleasantly surprised at how the course looked. Fair to say the course in its current state is not a poor relative to Singha Pk, in fact it may overall be in better condition and at Sports Day rates less expensive.
Our overall scores reflected this with an extremely tight finish to conclude the 18 hole Stable ford Round.
Peter Hellery though snatched the win with 35 points from Gordon Caygill and Terry Aston on 34,Ian Barrett and Ari Jylha 33, an Tony Jones 32.
Gordon as well as finishing second also won the Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 16th hole.

Friday Ubolrat 8 30am Tee Off for those interested.

26th June 2015 Udon Golf, Ubolrat Dam, Friday Competition Results.
Perfect weather again as we teed off at 8 30am this morning at Ubolrat. Course in excellent condition and with the fairways cut the course became a touch shorter than usual.
Although only 7 in number due to so many being away it was an enjoyable round with lots of friendly banter.
Chuck Mc Cormick who has been in top form recently looked as though he was in for a sizeable handicap cut early on the back nine. Some of his low running shots earned him appropriate sledging from the group as he was really doing it so easy.
Chuck finished up winning the day with 36 points although he was disappointed with a blob on the 18th when he it had looked like a 40 point round was imminent.
Terry Aston with 34 finished second with Paul Samme 31 in third, Tony Jones 30 points, Denni Price and Peter Hellery both with 27. Trevor Edge injured completed the round under physical duress with 19.
Chuck Mc Cormick won the Closest to the pin on the par 3- 14th, by an inch completing a most successful day.

Monday at Srithani Forest 8 am tee off for our regular Udon Society Stable ford round.

29th June 2015 Udon Golf Society Results
Another great day on the Srithani Forest Golf course with the weather much kinder than the previous months. Still darn hot but not as oppressive which certainly makes for an easier round physically.
The fairways are much harder now due to limited watering and the word Rough is certainly an understatement as the weeds/grass on some holes is up to 2 feet in height. Greens though are generally ok.
Ian Barrett with a superb 42 points 19/23 won the day even with 5 one point holes. 2 Birdies though somewhat compensated as well as 7 pars.
Tony Jones finished second with an impressive 39 points, including 8 pars let himself down from a great score by blobbing 2 of the par 5 holes. Jereld Sawyer with 34 points finished 3rd.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3, 3rd hole went to Terry Aston.

Other Scores- Paul Samme & Rex individual 33,Terry Aston & Gordon Caygill 32,Peter Hellery 30.

Next Monday 8 am tee off at Srithani will be our July Medal Round.

This Wednesday July 1, for those who are interested to join us it is an 8 30am Tee Off at Victory Pk in Nong Khai.

1st July 2015 Udon Golf Victory Park Results.
38/40 degrees on the Victory Pk Golf Course today which surprisingly did not feel as hot as when we play Srithani many Mondays at a lower temperature. There was quite a bit of wind around which might have made it feel cooler than it actually was though.
The Course was again in wonderful condition, the greens may have been a touch slow but they were consistent. The Management are now upgrading the rough so there is quite a lot of unmarked GUR that you can legally get relief from.
Jereld Sawyer with a birdie on the 18th snatched a win on count back from Terry Aston who had the same score being 35 points.
Ian Barrett did not produce his 42 point super form of Monday but still had a consistent 32 points with Tony Jones 30 and Gordon Caygill 28 completing the field.
Terry Aston won the Closest to the Pin on the 16th Par 3 hole.
The condition of Victory Pk at this time is in my opinion the best of all the Courses in Isaan. Amazingly there were only a few groups on the course today even though it was Sports Day.
If the Management of the Course were pro active and came up with Specials they would draw far more players from Udon Thani.

This coming Friday 3rd an 8 30am Tee off at Ubolrat for our regular group.

Next Monday 6th July 8am Tee off for our July Medal Round.

3rd July 2015 Udon Golf, Ubolrat Friday Results.
Hot, hot and hotter today at Ubolrat as we teed off for our regular Friday Round. At times through the round the wind blew in a gush of heat as though someone had just opened a furnace up.
Our overall low scores reflected the effect the heat had on maintaining concentration throughout the round as
Chuck Mc Cormick won the day with only 34 points. Tony Jones with 32 finished in second.

Tony and Chuck also won the two closest to the pin par 3 holes to complete a successful day for them both.
Other Scores; Terry Aston 31,Graham Firth 30,Ian Barrett 27,Paul Samme 25,Denni Price 23,Peter Hellery 19.

Udon Golf Society July 2015 Medal Round Results
Another hot humid day at Srithani as 10 of our members teed off for our July Medal Round.
The course had been partially watered but the fairways were still hard and dry and will be the same until the rain finally comes to break the current drought.
The Dams are getting close to the lowest level for years which does not augur well for water supply in Udon.
Ian Barrett who departs this coming Wednesday for 2 months brought his A game to the course as did Graham Firth to tie with 72 net. Ian however winning the Medal Round on count back.
Tony Jones grabbed 3rd spot on count back from Terry Aston, both recording 76 points net.
Other scores were; Gordon Caygill & Jereld Sawyer 79,
Chuck Mc Cormick 80, Ari Jylha 81,Rex individual 83,Peter Hellery 84.
Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 hole went to Rex individual.

Wednesday 8th Victory Pk 8 30am tee off for any interested.

Friday 10th Ubolrat for 8 30am tee off.
