To be perfectly honest if
1 It has taken a long time to ask for him to be arrested
2 All the current evidence would have been vetted to ensure he is not only wanted but probably going to get convicted as well. Whether he pleads or not.
3. An international request for a serious offence is normally cleared after it is 99% certain that the man they want is the offender and he is guilty.
So convicting him before he is found is not really the case here.
We forget he was asked to return and he didn't which in my book means that he thought he wouyld get away with it, which he didn't.
If he has been committing offences here the Thai Authorities will have first crack before deportation. As for checking on Foreign teachers well they should have done it together with a Police clearance letter from the foreigners home country.

Just had a look at Facebook, and he has over 3000 "friends" many appeared to be young Thai girls. He offered Private tutoring during the school holidays at B1000 for 20 hours (max 5 students at a time).

The Thais are going to have to look again at their vetting of farang teachers. This dude seems to have slipped through. No doubt his Thai and farang colleagues are going to be speculating on what he might have been doing in Udon.
My understanding is that only the 'ivy league' international schools are doing any form of police check on prospective staff and not sure if that check is with the police in the applicants home country or just a local trawl with the BiB.

I also understand that many teachers are hired and placed by agencies rather than direct hire and there's no telling what these agencies turn a blind eye to to collect their finders fee.

In that respect, it's probably more like he waltzed in rather than 'slipped through'.

On the 'other forum' someone mentioned the Welsh-born teacher nabbed in Bangkok in 2007 with kiddy porn (he finally got put away in the UK in 2011). Back in 2007, Police Col. Apichart Suribunya, head of Thailand's liaison office for Interpol, was talking up reform of Thai schools hiring and vetting procedures after that and other high profile cases. Seven years on and I guess it is perpetually consigned to the 'too hard' folder.

BTW, Apichart is still in charge of their Interpol liaison office but right now he's 'busy' with the Japanese surrogate baby factory 'scandal'. I wonder how he manages to hold onto his job with all these government upheavals, purges and the like? It certainly can't be performance related.

Regardless of any checks by the schools ....... How the hell did he get his visa in the first place ........ You need a letter from the Police (Room 350 New Scotland Yd) to state you are not on the Police National Computer, before you get your first visa

Not at all Statto.
That has only ever been a requirement for the 1 year OA visa.
Back when he applied for his first O visa there was virtually no requirement at all from Hull.

The UK govt like all others has the right to cancel a citizens passport for many reasons.

Why did they just cancel his passport, it would then automatically be flagged on the Thai Comp system eventually , nabbed and the Thais just notify the British embassy they have a citizen for their processing or assistance, in getting a new passport.

No Police check required for me from the UK - it may be different if he was getting an employment visa but I don't really know.

My first visa's were for employment and I was never asked for a police report, nor have I ever heard of anyone else being asked.

Come on statts. It's critical to Thai national security that you old farang who have time on your hands aren't wild-eyed overly sexed radicals. It's fine if you're foolish with money but you must have enough money to pass around to stay in Thailand.

Many teachers are working way too hard to get into too much trouble. After all this poor British bloke had to give lots of private lessons to pay his bills. He is also pretty old. Many (some?) blokes his age would have lost interest in sxx yonks ago. With any luck he'll be the same.

Horrible story, not too far from my home, also got a female (teacher) friend with 2 daughters in school in Kumphawapi, sent her two messages but no answer although she read them. Gives me the shivers. Hope they are ok.

A few comments to posts:
Like Jack mentioned the guy is charged, not convicted. Reason to not revoke his passport. He came to Thailand 9 years ago, must have? renewed his passport, no comments from any embassy so at that time he was not yet charged. We have no time schedule of events, often these charges of sexual assault find place much later than when they were allegedly taking place. So it is very well possible that the charges are quite recent and that there is no delay in arresting him. One wonders if charged how he could have got through the checks on 90 day reports and extensions....

I read that the guy was in contact with the UK police, but stated that he had no money to get back to the UK and asked if they could take care of the expenses. Waiting for an answer he got arrested.

I read on TVF that at another school he was caught with photos of young girls on his PC and chatting under a fake profile with young girls. When confronted he quit his teacher job and moved on, maybe to Kumphawapi.

Someone posted on 'the big forum' that he was working at the same school as the American chap that murdered his 19 year-old Pattaya girlfriend. Recall that one earlier this year? Killed the girl and hid her body on the roof of the Pattaya shophouse before fleeing to Udon and getting hired as a teacher?

It would be a pretty damning indictment if the same school has indeed hired both these turds.
