A slightly better/more accurate reflection of world view will be found in the exchange rate. Just off the top of my head we will see 35-1(usd-thb) before it spends any time at 30.

I thought this thread might have been deleted. Mods missed it? Or are things easing up?

What's the issue? Why would it need moderation?

There's widespread censorship in Thailand since the coup. It isn't a democracy anymore. And the link touches on a very sensitive subject. Some members have been holding their tongues for yonks on the coup because of the strict censorship.

novo58 won't be living a life of serenity in udon if he keeps posting links like this.

But don't worry. I think dazzz will hit this thread soon and really liven it up. He'll think he's an expert on this topic. The poor Thais are about to get clobbered big time. Hopefully not as much as the Muslims. Over to you dazzz.

Not a democracy any more, what? Thailand has never been a democracy!

Interesting concept.

Assuming Thailand has never been one, what is your definition of a democracy?

555 this reminds me of the "unflattering" photos that Beyoncé "demanded " to be removed from the Internet.

I shared them on Facebook, as I did the link to this article

My original post was ONLY to highlight how Thailand is currently being reviewed in foreign media.

Surely the powers that be would want to know how their efforts to date are being viewed around the world.

Unless of course .............

ignorance is bliss. [-X

Might want to Google the author of the article. Pavin is currently persona non grata in the kingdom. Very interesting guy.

With the exception of the last paragraph or two, I read an article similar to this in the Bangkok Post a week or so ago.

I struggled to find a thread to post this link in:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news ... d=11383297

New Zealand is being urged by the Thai government to revoke the NZ passport held by a wanted Red Shirt who arrived in NZ as a refugee. I guess the Thai government is trying to grab other Red Shirts residing overseas. It doesn't make Thailand look good.

"It doesn't make Thailand look good."

Doesn't New Zealand try to get their criminals back from overseas then GT?

Thailand's junta probably doesn't understand that civilised countries generally don't extradite/deport political "refugees".

Of course, Sweden may prove the exception here if it manages to get its hands on Assange.

Sorry Jack, I wasn't aware that lese majeste was only a crime for some political parties and not others, I thought it was an offence in Thailand for everyone

Focus on the "political" bit, rather than the parties, statto.

And I didn't realise it was about LM. Even less chance of a civilised country acceding to that nonsense.

This maybe a point to far, but Lese Majeste is a Civil law which has been criminalised to ensure the offenders get locked up.
This may be a broad generalisation but to speak ones mind without fear or favour is predominantly the way most Western countries and I include Jpan and Australia and New Zealand in this as well as some South American countries view many things.
The simple fact that by speaking badly about the monarchy or alluding to it in an insulting way , could land you in a Thai Court, The Thai Government is seeking that new Zealand revoke said passport of this chappie because he has broken the Lese Majaeste law, but as yet he has not been to court and therefore not even convicted so any attempt to put pressure on a country , because a person who was a Thai national , who may or may not have broken a law, that I believe NZ does not recognise as legal because it breaches basic Human Rights, is an interesting twist.

Having said that in the UK although we do not have a law to stop people speaking about our monarchy , in truth not many people do, and most would not by saying anything incite the public apart from probably getting a bloody nose for saying it in the first place. It is one of the quirks we have a Royal family and for some they are fair game just because they cannot nor do they answer back, so most people don't. here we have the reverse and it is used to stifle free speech but then most Thais I know revere the Roayl family as we in the UK do ours, some do not understand this Lese majeste Law either.

The fact that this law is silly by the way that old man was sent to prison for apparently a text he didn't know how to text, that was a blatant abuse of the law and the whole world saw that.
