Besides a job interview and psychological test, Thai employers will be encouraged to select graduates based on scores from a new standardized exam given to university seniors.

In Thailand, the higher score, the better the student/employee, chai mai?

The National Institute of Educational Testing Service will start the new “U-NET” exam for undergraduate seniros this year, according to Dr. Somwang Pitiyanuwat, institute chairman.

The exam will be given at the end of the year to all seniors in all subjects at participating universities. The announcement did not specify which or how many universities those were.

However, the first test will happen in June as a part of procedure to recruit university students for the 2014 Professional Teacher project.

The four tests include Thai and English communication skills, media literacy, and critical thinking.

Two more tests will be added next year: technical knowledge and morality. Hopefully the students will know right from wrong answers and won’t have to cheat on that one.

So how many universities will actually agree to this?

“The organization has approached the academic presidents of many universities including Thammasat and Chulalongkorn,” Dr. Somwang says, “Besides, we will campaign for the U-NET test and will request corporations use the test result as a key to hire new employees.”

He added the U-NET exam might be imposed on master and doctoral degree graduates in the future, Kapook and Manager reported.
