Need some help with a virus

Post by bumper » April 24, 2014, 9:51 am

My virus protector keeps finding this one item as fast as it removes it pops back up again.

It says it's in the C drive can't find it there it is:

Adware Generic_.rKF

I'm running smart PC care now, to see if that will remove it

I reserve the right to be wrong, mispell words type badly. leave words out of sentences because my mind works faster then my fingers. To be an OLD GIT I've earned it

I would download & run Malwarebytes free..
https://www.malwarebytes.org/free/

It is better at getting rid of these adware & spamware products than any of the Virus Killers are.

If you run Malwarebytes & your virus protection later says that it is back then that is a sure sign that your Browser has been infected with one of these odious toolbar & search engine spams.
If that happens then shout again - but that is a bit trickier & complex to get rid of..

Avast free antivirus.....
http://www.avast.com/en-au/lp-ppc-win-0 ... vQodL0cApQ

It will track down problems then do a re-boot to make sure problem is removed.
It can also do a "boot scan" which will look for problems "before" they load.
Works for me....

What ever you do bumper do not try running a system with 2 (or more) virus scanning programs in operation.
It will slow the system down no end & give you zero additional protection.

Pick a virus program (any one the free ones are all of a muchness) allow it to run regular updates & scans & stick with it.

What your current scanner is seeing is not a virus, it is Adware.
Maywarebyes is specially designed to get rid of Malware. Adware & Spamware - the other free virus scanners are designed as protection against viruses.
These are two different things, with different aims & seriousness.
However, you don't especially want either on your system as they will both do things that you don't want (or need) them to do.

I pay for a virus scanner (more because it also gives me phone protection & anti-theft & also high security internet banking) but I still run Malwarebytes on a regular basis & it still, sometimes, finds issues..
