Would anyone know if either of the above 91 types of fuel are both OK or, one is better to use then the other?
Cheers Mudguard...

E10 or 91 red fuel...Honda 250R

Postby GARYZX6R » July 20, 2012, 6:50 am

Either are fine for the CBR. I use Shell 91 E10 normally ,and if the bike is not being used for a while I fill up with 91 benzine - red -. Reason is over a period of time E10 can break down and water is a by- product ,and as we know we dont want water in the fuel system.

91 red benzine has been long removed from the gas stations (well over a year)
if you ride or drive around, you will only see yellow bottles on the racks of the road side sellers

In fact where I live the village station only has diesel and 91 benzine, as all the 2 stroke and 4 stroke farming implements would not last long on ethanol e10 crap, and as for my bikes always use 91 benzine even if the other crap is available as the mileage from the benzine is far better.

Red 91 still exist, that's all I use in my car & MB's. It's suppose to be phased out this year and replace with green 91 (gasohol), but it hasn't yet...obviously.

Bangchak in particular has been a strong promoter of alternative fuels and previously announced plans to scrap sales of pure petrol next year. The company already has withdrawn 95 petrol in favour of 95 gasohol, a blend of 5% ethanol with 95% petrol.

I think you will find it pretty much depends on the age of your machine.

A few years ago (in Aus at least) they took the lead out of petrol. The lead content acted as a lubricant for the valve seats and valve guides.
To overcome the obvious problems this new lead-free fuel created, they made the aforementioned parts much harder. For the ones left behind, it was recommended to use "upper-cylinder lubricant".

The 91 and 95 refers to the octane rating I believe, so a different characteristic altogether.

E10 is the content of alcohol fuel added to mix.

Alcohol fuel requires a much higher volume of fuel to be consumed (about 4 to 6 times I believe) to create the same energy. So although it may be a bit cheaper to begin with, one will use a lot more to go the same distance.
Although no one now has a choice.

The risk with using too high a mix content percentage is that engines are tuned with petrol or 10% mix in mind and as the content of alcohol fuel increases, so does the required fuel flow, but most engines are fixed mixture control either manually or by the ECU (engine control unit ) The result is they start to run lean, heat up too much, crack heads, burn valves, burn holes in pistons, on and on.

Wouldn't be concerned with the choice you have now though if your machine is only a few years old.

I just filled up with RED 91 benzine yesterday at 7/11 on the Ring Road. I assume the RED has always referred to the color shown on the pump, not whatever color the fuel may be dyed.
